課程概述

We will read the book “The Mechanical Mind. A Philosophical Introduction to Minds, Machines, and Mental Representation.” There is more and more of AI and robots in our world. We build them. Where this will lead to and how AI and robots compare to human intelligence and human life is hotly debated and often the theme of science fictions movies. Can computers think? Do they understand anything? Do they have mental representations, such as perceptions, imaginations, and thoughts? Will they be conscious and have feelings? The main problem in trying to answer these questions is that we do not very well know what consciousness, perception, and thought are. We have them but we do not know how they work and what they are. These are the philosophical questions this course is about.

課程目標
The course objective is to arrive at a better understanding of mental representations, such as perception and thought as we human beings have them, and how they compare with computers and how work.
