課程概述

本課程的主要內容在於批判現代性這個概念。現代性這個概念具有很寬廣的內容，這個內容讓我們一時之間必須要先問，從哪個角度來定義現代性。最普遍定義現代性的方式是哈伯瑪斯所提到的西方理性主義。這個定義的方式不但具有「不連續性」的概念，甚至還有以「西方的啟蒙」作為現代性的主要標誌。本課程認為，這個對於現代性的理解是有限制的。對於現代性的理解應當首先重視現代性發生的過程。實際上，在現代性發生的過程中，真正的重點純粹是一個宇宙論的選擇：一個由神所創造的宇宙，被由人所建構的宇宙取代。實際發生的是一個宇宙論的改變，也可以說是宇宙論的選擇。這個選擇的過程中有得也有失，不過我們在這場課程中主要強調的是這個宇宙論在轉換的過程中，我們失去了什麼，得到了什麼？ 

課程目標
 本課程的主要目標在於，透過研究經典，發掘批判性思考的重要性。在理解現代性這個概念的過程中，課程特別強調從宇宙論的轉換作為研究的主軸。因此，在瞭解前科學時代的宇宙論，我們是以斯多噶的理論架構為主軸，而在瞭解後科學的宇宙論時，我們是以康德對於自然科學的詮釋作為研讀的基礎。在本課程發展的過程中，我們所強調的在於分析整個事件發生的客觀環境，因此我們採用的是研讀一些二手資料，並且將我們問題的主軸，透過這些資料做進一步的彰顯。本課程最主要的目標是，希望學生能夠從這些詮釋以及說明，進一步的瞭解，從不同的面向來解釋現代性，對於這個現代世界所產生的影響。
