課程概述

Course website: http://osc.corenttech.com. All homework assignments, solutions to problems, supplementary reading material, etc., will be posted to the course website. Students are required to take good notes during the lectures, as no other comprehensive source for the covered material will be available. (Recommended textbooks are mainly for reference, as they do not contain the same material covered in the lectures.) The lectures will be videotaped and available to students for review afterward. 

課程目標
To instruct first-year graduate students in the physical principles of light (as well as microwave) generation, propagation, and detection. This course will be a prerequisite to other (graduate level) courses in lasers, antennas, photodetectors, diffraction theory, fiber optics, laser_disk/ display/ solar cell/ light_emitting_diode technologies, etc. 
課程要求
Knowledge of mathematical physics (calculus, complex analysis, vector algebra);
a basic course in electromagnetic theory (such as electro-statics, magneto-statics, Maxwell’s equations) will be highly desirable.

First-year graduate students in Physics, Electrical Engineering, and Optical Science/ Engineering. Advanced senior-level undergraduates, if sufficiently familiar with methods of mathematical physics, may also be able to attend this course.
