課程概述

持續加速,不斷移動,似乎是公認的當代社會與文化特質。無論是展現於全球金融市場、網際網絡的數位訊息流動,或是持續擴展的飛航、海運、公路和鐵路運輸,及其附隨的各種旅行與觀光型態和經驗,以及日常生活中,從機動車、大眾運輸、單車到徒步的通勤與日常移動,乃至於跨境的自願或被迫遷徙及其相伴的社會變動或不確定感,或是刺激快感,都顯示了流動是無所不在的當代生活狀態或過程。
因此,從現代性到後現代的狀態,諸多學者皆以流動(flow, fluidity)作為掌握時代特徵的主要線索。從存有(being)到流變(becoming)、「以時間消滅空間」,乃至於地球村(global village)或時空壓縮(time-space compression)、流動空間(space of flows)等描述,以及後結構主義或後現代主義對於游牧、液態、跨界、逾越、分散碎裂、未決定性等概念的著迷,都透露了一種移動氛圍,某種流動的認識論和存有論。相應的,厭煩或恐懼於這種普遍流動狀態的人,則紛紛訴求於根植(rootedness)、停駐(anchorage)、緩慢(slowness)以為對抗,乃至於演變為慢活或慢食運動,以及對在地(local)或區域的關注。再者,誠如汽車需要道路、手機通訊需要天線基地台,而飛機必須降落於機場,當前的移動時代也有其複雜的流動與固著(fixity)之辯證,需要不動的新移動基礎設施或移動系統,來遂行加速流動。
據此,從社會分析角度看,移動(movement)不僅是物理學的時空變量、速率和方向的課題,而是牽涉了複雜的技術、社會、政治、經濟、文化心態、再現和倫理等議題,因而只能設想為複合的、建構的、關係性的「移動性」(mobilities)。在這個取向下,移動研究超越了傳統的交通運輸規劃與政策研究,也不同於運輸地理學和經濟學的探討,而是提出了新的移動研究典範,有助於我們超越固定性和封閉邊界的觀念,來重新考察當代社會生活,以及城鄉與區域發展的特性。
 

課程目標
本課程旨在介紹晚近西方學界有關移動性的理論、概念、方法和議題,並期許藉此考察台灣和東亞的移動情境,發展出掌握台灣與東亞社會特殊性的移動視角。課程大分為兩個部分,首先是介紹移動研究的圖譜,尤其幾個比較重要的理論取向,包括長期經營這個研究領域的John Urry, Tim Cresswell, Zygmunt Bauman,以及速度研究。其次,我們討論幾個特殊議題,先是移動研究的方法與方法論,接著是物質移動、移動基礎設施(道路、鐵路、管線)、機動車文明、飛航生活、移動通訊、徒步、性別化移動,以及非日常的觀光旅行和遷徙,最後考察移動的群體差異、不平等、排除與倫理議題。 
課程要求
■課程要求:
盡力閱讀課程材料,勇於發問,勤於出席。修習者的投入與表現,對本課程能否順利運作非常重要。本課程採取講演和討論課(seminar)並行方式,每次上課由教師講授和提示重點,並由參與者分配導讀該週的閱讀材料,每篇文章報告時間,必須控制於十五分鐘,盡量留時間發問和討論,探討能跟理論概念對話的經驗議題。報告者必須分發書面提要(必須包含三百字以內之摘述,主要論點和論證邏輯之說明【配合論證圖示】,以及評論和問題)。
沒有分配到當週閱讀材料導讀的同學,則需繳交針對某一篇或全部閱讀材料的讀書心得和提問,至少一頁。旁聽的同學,不需分配閱讀材料的導讀,也不必繳交作業,但是必須每堂課繳交讀書心得和提問。
本課程的設計份量,需要修課者在課堂外花費五倍以上的時間,也就是3 X 4=12個小時,包括閱讀教材、與同學討論、撰寫摘要或讀書心得及提問的時間。
■摘要寫作要點:
書面摘要必須於首頁列明報告文獻(APA格式)、日期、報告人,先有三百字摘要,述明整篇文章的問題意識和主要論點。然後是經過消化的、條理分明的內容概述。換言之,不宜逐段摘譯,最好是整理出文中討論的主要問題,以及作者對這些問題的回答或爭辯,建議以圖表方式整理出主要的論證架構,也可以搭配一些圖片,譬如說作者照片、書影或文中提到的人物和事件圖片。如果直接引述文中語句或段落,必須以不同字體清楚標示,並加註頁碼。最後,必須針對文獻內容提出問題,或是可供延伸討論的經驗議題。

各項報告須準時繳交,遲交一天將扣3分,但以扣除45分為上限;期末報告完稿不得遲交。繳交時間明定於各週進度表。

針對自己的某種例行性的移動,或是某次特殊的移動經驗,從事詳細的紀錄描繪,例如包含這段移動經驗涉及的科技物、場地、組織制度、規範、再現、心理狀態、身體實作、他人及回憶等等。然後,提出反身性的分析,重點是移動性的構成和影響。本作業佔15%。

討論移動性的社會形構,可能是針對某個特殊社會群體,探討其日常生活之主導移動系統、經驗或移動狀態的構成、其中蘊含的社會權力關係,以及這種移動系統或狀態如何影響了生活方式和認同,這是偏向移動民族誌的探討。或者,探討某個地區,例如城市特定街區的移動狀態之構成要素、相關都市治理政策與技術,以及其中蘊藏的衝突、問題和社會影響。最後,可能是針對特定的移動基礎設施或工具,探討其構成、運作、轉變、治理和問題等。這份報告將區分為三個階段繳交。第一階段是提出研究計畫書,針對研究主題提出初步觀察、提問,以及初步的文獻回顧和方法說明(3頁以內)。第二階段是已經完成田野或案例考察及初步分析的初稿,至少一萬字。第三階段是完稿,也就是經過教師批閱和建議,提出完整分析的修正稿,一萬五千字左右。論文寫作必須符合學術規範,包含中英文標題、中文摘要與關鍵詞,以及符合學術規範之書目格式(參考《台灣社會學刊》或《建築與城鄉研究學報》的格式)。每階段分別佔學期成績的5%、20%、10%,合計為35%。
