課程概述

This unique course calls for a unique kind of students!
Students, who want to ‘make a difference in a society,’ more than just to ‘make money in life.’
Students, who have a persisting spirit of ‘an entrepreneur’, a creative mind of ‘an innovator’ and a caring heart of ‘a missionary’! This course is for you!

This is a very special course about ‘entrepreneurship, innovation, and social business.’

We are now living in a world with huge disparity gaps in wealth (1% vs. 99%), in technology, in health, in finance, in education, and in future opportunities. Such gaps exist among countries, in societies, in people groups.

In recent years, social entrepreneurs are trying to leverage professional skills, management experience, and business resources as they create businesses with a mission to mitigate such disparities and to make a change and impact in the world.

This new form of business, ‘Social Business,’ is initiated with a social mission for its organizational purpose beyond profit seeking to meet social needs which have not met by government agencies or by non-government organizations. In comparison with traditional charity organizations, the “Social Business’ operates as a regular for-profit business to sustain its business operation.

Social businesses today encompass almost all business and social sectors: microcredit, bank, telecommunication, green energy, education, health care, agriculture, food, fighting poverty, children care, physical or mental disability, woman’s right, trash to gold, etc. Not just in poor rural villages of under developed countries, but also in metro cities of developed countries.

Students who aspire to learn this exciting new business field will learn the core concept of social businesses, explore various business models and get equipped with entrepreneurship skills.

This course is uniquely organized to strike a balance of knowledge and practice. Lectures are accompanied by enlightened group discussion in class. Balancing knowledge with reality, students will be introduced to various social business ventures and social entrepreneurs in case studies, invited talks by local social entrepreneurs, and corporate visits.

**Even this course is organized as a course in the Global MBA program, ‘all students’ are welcome, including international exchange students. If you could not register online, don’t give up! Please come to the first class to get approval and authorization code from Dr. Hsieh or you could correspond with him by email: dr.edhsieh@gmail.com
