課程概述 |
This course is designed to be taught in English mainly for international students, but will open to domestic students as well.
Other than collecting, conserving and displaying items, museums are also an institute of education that citizens can gain views of culture, history and natural resources through the scope of museum. The main purpose of this course is to provide students with theories, knowledge and other cognitive tools so that they can explore, evaluate and appreciate various museums and construct their own view of Taiwan through the lens of a museum goer. In this course, students learn about the history and objectives of different types of museums, which represent the multiple aspects, such as history, culture, nature resources and geography, of Taiwan. Students would have the chance to approach, view and appreciate Taiwanese museums as museum goers and draw their own images based on the concepts they receive from museum visiting, virtually and physically. Several examples of different types of museums will be discussed as case studies in the class. Through readings, written assignments, group discussions, field trips, team-based research projects and discussion with classmates with different cultural backgrounds and personal interests, students will gain their own understanding of Taiwan.
